Ross rallies to take Alfa MiTo prize - 18/08/2009

A Royal Mail computer programmer and father of three has won a brand new Alfa Romeo MiTo after finishing top of a UK-wide online gaming competition organised by the iconic Italian sporting car manufacturer. Ross Whytock, 36, from Kinross, Perthshire, claimed his brand new 1.4 16v Alfa MiTo Lusso, worth more than £12,500, after entering MyMiToRally – an online racing game created by the Italian car marque to highlight the technology on board the Alfa MiTo and to show off it’s sporty DNA credentials. Mr Whytock, married to Morven and father to Jacob (six) and twin daughters Ella and Carys, (four), was hooked on the game from the very start. He said: “The MiTo rally was great fun and extremely addictive. Each stage was hosted on a different website and offered a new challenge each time. I took part at every opportunity from the first week of the competition, constantly trying to improve my time on each stage.” The competition handed out prizes to top times on a weekly basis ranging from Apple ipods to Nintendo Wii’s, with the top prize of a MiTo up for grabs for the person that was the overall winner at the end of the six month competition. “In the very first week I won an iPod and I was overjoyed by that, but winning the MiTo was just unbelievable. You hear of people winning big competitions but you never really expect to be that lucky yourself,” Ross said. Neil Miller, General Manager at Western Alfa Romeo Perth handed the keys to Ross. He said: “I think it’s tremendous for Ross and his young family to have won the top prize, he was obviously competing against very capable gamers across the UK, so you have to congratulate him on that. Of course I’m also pleased that he’s from our neck of the woods as well. “The MiTo is a fantastic car, very stylish and fun to drive and I think that Ross will no doubt already be reaping the rewards in that sense,” he added. But Ross has already set his sights on his next goal. He said: “My dream car is the Alfa 8C Spider, but as the kids grow older I think I could settle for the 159 Sportwagon.”
